Morning Star was designed by her first owner, William Barrows and built by Willard Marine in 1979.  Her original name was 'Patrician'.

In the year 2000, she received an extensive refit at the Hinkley Yard in Maine.  During this time both engines were removed and replaced along with the transmissions. The vessel's plywood and teak decks were removed and also replaced along with some of the insides of the bulwarks. All windows were removed and replaced. On the interior, the carpet was replaced as well as numerous appointments including all countertops. the pilothouse saw a major upgrade in electronics and all the wiring in the engine rooms were replaced along with new sound insulation. The watermaker was also new at this time as well as the yacht's air conditioning.
